Assessments for Post-Secondary Students & Adults

Many students find that aspects of their learning and/or emotional well-being are hindering their ability to reach their goals. You are not alone! Some of the problems people report at this clinic include issues with procrastination, organization, focus, memory, comprehension, specific academic skills (e.g., difficulty reading new vocabulary), anxiousness, test anxiety, depressed mood, or difficulty completing tasks within allotted times.

An assessment is tailored to you based on the nature of your concerns. This may involve an evaluation of your cognitive and academic development to clarify your learning strengths and needs or your mental health. This is a diagnostic process that helps determine if the difficulties you're experiencing are the result of an underlying neurodevelopmental condition such as a learning disability (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia), ADHD, or a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. The assessment then informs a plan which may include strategies, supports, interventions, or accommodations to ensure the accessibility of your post-secondary program or workplace.

The end result of the assessment is a feedback session to discuss your results and recommendations and a report. Clients often share this report with others involved in their care (e.g., their family doctor) or use this report when registering with the accessibility services department at their post-secondary program, when applying for grants through Alberta Student Aid as a student with a disability, or when requesting accessibility and special accommodations for various certification or entrance exams.
