Screening for Giftedness / IQ Testing
$1200 to $2100
For students in kindergarten through grade twelve, Alberta Education defines Gifted And Talented as "exceptional potential and/or performance across a wide range of abilities in one or more of the following areas: general intellectual ability, specific academic, creative thinking, social, musical, artistic, & kinesthetic." In Alberta, each school authority establishes its own process for identifying giftedness.
In order to assess the intellectual and academic aspects of giftedness, specialized cognitive and academic tests are administered. The tests used at this clinic are the WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, or WAIS-IV (depending on the age of your child) and the WIAT-III.
Folks often have particular programs in mind when their child is advanced enough to be considered a gifted learner. As part of their application requirements, the Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE) requires assessment of both intellectual and academic development ($1750). Westmount Charter School requires only a cognitive profile or โIQ testingโ ($1000).
๐โโ๏ธ Note: Only approximately 2% of the general population has an IQ high enough to be considered intellectually gifted.
It is possible for children to have a dual exceptionality and be both intellectually gifted and have a neurodevelopmental disorder such as a learning disability (e.g., dyslexia). If you suspect that your child is particularly bright, but is struggling with grade level academics, a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment is recommended.
